What is the Kolymbethra Garden?
The Garden of Kolymbethra is a green paradise located in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, a precious natural oasis entrusted FAI foundation (Italian Environment Fund). It extends in a natural basin between the temples, where once there was a large water basin, the "kolymbethra", used by the ancient Greeks inhabitants for irrigation. Today, it is a lush Mediterranean garden, full of citrus groves, olive trees, almond trees and typical plants of the Mediterranean scrub. This suggestive corner combines natural and archaeological beauty, offering visitors an oasis of peace immersed in the ancient history of the site.
Who can take this excursion?
This excursion is not suitable for beginners on their first horseback riding experience. We require just a small experience to participate, such as having completed at least one-hour ride excursion or having taken some horseback riding lessons.
Can I reach the excursion location by public transport?
You can reach the starting point of this excursion by public transport from Agrigento. From Piazza Rosselli take Line 1 and get off at the sixth stop: Parcheggio Porta Quinta. From here you will have to walk for about 9 minutes (700 meters), to reach the starting point indicated for this excursion.

The Valley of the Temples is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world, an heritage site since 1997, it represents one of the treasures of human civilization. This horse ride go along a path immersed in an extraordinary bucolic landscape, made of green olive and centuries-old almond trees called Kolymbethra garden. The name come from an evergreen plant that domine in this valley. The garden is very rich in flora with several species of fruit trees, such as citrus, carob, pistachio, mulberry. Close to the river and at the bottom of the limestone walls, we will find the Mediterranean scrub with myrtles and laurels. The vegetation is not the only power of this horse ride, it will leads you close to the Temple of Hephaestus, God of fire, the Temple of Heracles, the famous hero son of Zeus, until we reach a view point from which we can admire the Temple of Concord, preserved almost in its entirety, and then near the Temple of Juno, divinity of marriage and childbirth, located in the highest part of the hill. What you will experince is an alternative and evocative tour from a different point of view, in this Hellenic place. Something you can't miss!

🕒 How long does it last?
This experience lasts 3-hours and start in the morning, afternoon and based on the season at the sunset too. You can choose departure time during booking selecting the favorite one.

🥾 Recommended clothing
We recommend sportswear with sports shoes (no flip-flops, slippers), sunscreen, sunglasses. On winter, clothing appropriate to the season with windproof jacket.

Both English and American saddles are available for this excursion. The gait is on walk.

In fact, even if horses emit methane, about 18 kg per year, these emissions are irrelevant.
