In the heart of the Nebrodi Park, the largest natural reserve in Sicily, there is an area of extraordinary geological, archaeological and wildlife interest. Here the rocks tell thousand-year-old stories of transformations that have shaped Sicily as we know it today.
Nebrodi mountains trek starts from Longi, a picturesque village immersed in the park. After the initial briefing with the guide, you will board 4x4 vehicles to reach the starting point of the hike. The first part of the trail runs through woods, pastures and springs, with rich, typically Mediterranean vegetation. The path constantly climbing and leads to the Rifugio del Sole.
From here, a panoramic route offers spectacular views of the Dolomite rocks, characterized by imposing limestone walls. This habitat is the kingdom of the majestic golden eagle and the griffon vulture, established on the opposite side of the mountain.
Once at the top, the tour is enriched with archaeological suggestions. According to some hypotheses, supported by the presence of ruins visible along the path, this could be the area where the ancient Greek city of Krastos stood. On the hight points will stop for a break, ideal spot for birdwatching, contemplate the panorama of the Tyrrhenian coast and the Aeolian Islands (weather conditions permitting), or simply enjoy the quiet of a place full of history and surrounded by a mystical atmosphere. This unique itinerary offers an experience that combines nature, history and scenic beauty in a breathtaking setting.
