What happens in case of bad weather?
Outdoor activities are always affected by weather conditions. Last-minute cancellations are possible. Cancellations by our organization always entitle you to a full refund of the deposit. To know the policy about bad weather visit the "Assistance" page, "Reservations" section.
What 4x4 vehicles are used for the ascent?
Two types of vehicles are used for the ascent: the Torsus, with a maximum capacity of 34 people, and the Mercedes Sprinter, which can accommodate up to 20 people. Both vehicles are equipped to tackle volcanic dirt roads with steep slopes. The choice of vehicle is made based on the number of participants, to optimize consumption and reduce emissions. The Mercedes Sprinter, with lower consumption, is used for smaller groups, while the Torsus is used when the number of participants exceeds 20 people, to ensure optimal efficiency.
What happens in case of an eruption?
Etna's eruptions are frequent and often unpredictable. To ensure the safety of our visitors, we are in constant contact with autority that's monitoring volcano, such as the Civil Protection and the INGV of Catania (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology), which provide us with updates on volcanic activity. In the event of an eruption that involves the closure of the summit areas of Etna, we will promptly inform partecipants about. In case of cancellation every partecipant can choose whether to receive a refund of the deposit or move the booking to a new date.
Does this tour reach the highest point of Etna?
No, this tour reaches a maximum altitude of 3000 meters and takes place at the base of the summit craters of Etna. It is designed to allow anyone to explore the summit area, even those who are not used to walking or prefer to avoid the challenging trek necessary to reach highest point at 3340 meters. Pricing & Included stuffs
The Etna 3k tour at the Volcanological Observatory will take you to the feet of the majestic active craters of Etna, the North-East, the Central crater and the South-East. The ascent will be on board 4x4 vehicles up to the volcanological observatory. From this position it will be possible admire the volcanic plateau where the 4 summit craters of Etna are located, with a unique view of the South-East crater, it could gives you the spectacle of a new explosion. A short trek will lead you to the majestic volcanic depression of the Valle del Bove, with its walls and peaks of volcanic rock over 1k meters high. Most part of the trail will take place along lava fields, typical lunar landscapes, and inactive craters, with wonderful views of the Ionian coast and Taormina. The tour lasts approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes and is accessible to anyone. During the return to the station there is a further stop during which you will discover the phenomenon of the subterminal eruptions of Etna.
Sunset session
The program of the sunset tour, in addition to the stages indicated for the daily tour, includes an additional stop to enjoy the wonderful sunset at high altitude. Based on the volcanic conditions, weather and the season, the ideal location will be reached to enjoy the Golden Light. We will wait until sunset will over to take the return route to the starting station.

No minimum number required. This activity is not suitable for pregnant women and for people with respiratory or cardiac diseases.
🕒 How long does it last?
This experience lasts 2h30min and start in the morning, afternoon and based on the season at the sunset too. You can choose departure time during booking selecting the favorite one.

🥾 Recommended clothing
We recommend sportswear with sport shoes, preferably trekking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, windbreaker. In spring and autumn, backpack with jacket, fleece and gloves ready to use.

Activity features
4x4 tour up to 2900 meters at the base of the giant summit craters of mount Etna on the volcanic plateau of Pizzi Deneri, with a privileged view of the south-east and north-east craters. During the tour a short trekking will lead you to discover the majestic Valle del Bove and the 2002 volcanic rift.

Thanks to the use of latest generation vehicles with limited consumption and low emissions, for this tour are estimated 0.35 kg of CO2 and water vapor emissions into the atmosphere per participant. There is no soil pollution or excessive noise pollution, thanks to the low noise of the engines. Furthermore, the tour does not cause damage to the flora, the ascent is made on the track that leads to the vulcanological observatory.

Very reactive travel agency that was able to organize a trip in one day and during some difficult conditions (forest fires). Very knowledgeable and french speaking guide for a three-hour experience that we want do do again, but at sunset this time.
