When can I see an Etna eruption?
Etna eruptions are frequent but it is not always possible to carry out an excursion to see it. To allow an excursion close in, the conditions must be safe in every aspect. This extraordinary, unique, exceptional moment occurs when the intensity of the eruption is not so powerfull, based on the reccomandation of National Institute of Volcanology of Catania, and when the observation area is accessible and in a position that guarantees complete safety.
What 4x4 vehicles are used for the ascent?
Two types of vehicles are used for the ascent: the Torsus, with a maximum capacity of 34 people, and the Mercedes Sprinter, which can accommodate up to 20 people. Both vehicles are equipped to tackle volcanic dirt roads with steep slopes. The choice of vehicle is made based on the number of participants, to optimize consumption and reduce emissions. The Mercedes Sprinter, with lower consumption, is used for smaller groups, while the Torsus is used when the number of participants exceeds 20 people, to ensure optimal efficiency.

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology monitoring the volcanic activity of Etna and all the volcanoes present in Italy. To stay updated on the volcanic activity we recommend to follow the facebook profile of the institute, where you will find real-time updates.

Pricing & Included stuffs
There are few times when Etna offers the opportunity to admire all its power and its primordial charm, and this is the perfect time to take this extraordinary, unique, exceptional opportunity. The area where the current Strombolian activity is taking place, is perfect to give everyone a chance to see this pure manifestation of the power of nature.
The excursion starts in the afternoon and goes on until sunset, the best time to look the explosions inside the crater, and the magma sliding down from its base. We will meet at the Etna Nord station (6:00pm); from here, after an opening briefing, you get on board special latest generation 4x4 vehicles (30 seats), to face the ascent from 1,800 meters up to 2,850 meters above see level. We are in Piano delle Concazze between the Volcanological Observatory, the Valle del Leone and the majestic summit craters, surrounded by a lunar landscape of black volcanic ash and pyroclastic debris. This is the point from which we will enjoy the show of the South-East crater. Waiting for the dark the guide will give insight about eruption and the surrounding landscape. Just the sun goes down, the darkness will color the explosions and lava by its typical fiery red color, while the roar of the volcano will awaken in you a sense of fear and grandeur. Around 8.30pm we get back on board the vehicles to face the descent. Expert drivers will take you back to the departure station. Expected return 9:00pm.

Thanks to the use of latest generation vehicles with limited consumption and low emissions, for this tour are estimated 0.35 kg of CO2 and water vapor emissions into the atmosphere per participant. There is no soil pollution or excessive noise pollution, thanks to the low noise of the engines. Furthermore, the tour does not cause damage to the flora, the ascent is made on the track that leads to the vulcanological observatory.

Very reactive travel agency that was able to organize a trip in one day and during some difficult conditions (forest fires). Very knowledgeable and french speaking guide for a three-hour experience that we want do do again, but at sunset this time.
